Anjaneya Lord Hanuman is often called Anjaneya, which literally means “son of Anjana”. His mother, Anjana, was a celestial apsara who was cursed to be born on Earth. In her earthly form, she became a devout worshipper of Lord Shiva, praying fervently for a divine child who would help relieve the world of evil. Pleased with her deep devotion, Lord Shiva granted her the boon of a powerful son. Around the same time, King Dasharatha of Ayodhya was performing a sacred ritual to beget children (the Putrakameshti Yagna). As part of the ritual, he received a divine pudding (payasam) to share with his queens. A portion of this divine essence was mystically carried by the wind god Vayu to Anjana, who consumed it as prasad. Thus, Hanuman was born—blessed by Shiva, born through the grace of Vayu, and carried in the womb of Anjana. Jai Shree Ram!
